Lori Steiner’s Top 10: An Interview

For over 20 years, Lori Steiner has built a successful career in the commercial and residential real estate business. Read on as she dishes about business, education and her advice for recent grads.

1.    What are three things people don’t know about you (and may be surprised to learn)?

  • I love attending any kind of sporting event – I enjoy watching the crowd as much as the game.
  • My passion is cooking and my license plate is TAILG8 1.
  • Andy and I have 22 nieces and nephews and 13 grandnieces and nephews.

 2.    Graduation is upon us, what is your best advice for new college grads seeking their first career gig?

Use every contact you have to get your foot in the door. Interview for information. If someone likes you enough, they will offer you a job or recommend you for one.

 3.    What is the one thing you wish you’d known 20 years ago?

How fast our kids would grow up! They are now fabulous young adults, and we are still having so much fun together…but the time has flown!

4.    What is your favorite local restaurant/place to hangout?

For a great steak, we love J. Gilberts. For a quick bite, Local Roots in Powell is our Cheers. When we head down to the Short North to check-up on our projects, we hit up Rossi’s or Surly Girl.

5.    Tell us your favorite app.

I am an information junkie when traveling. GateGuru is the best. It tells you if your flight and your connections are on time, what gate you are coming into and going out of, and it has a map of every airport.

6.    What do you love most about your job?

My amazing team. The passion for what we do around here is unmatched!

7.    What accomplishment are you most proud of in your professional life?

I love the company that Doug and I started six years ago. It’s small but dynamic, and we have created a culture of people who want to do their best everyday. Everyone contributes, everyone collaborates, and everyone rolls up their sleeves to get the job done. The sense of accomplishment is palatable, and is shared by all.

8.    If you could go back to college today, what would your major be?

Business. I didn’t take one business class in college and I regret it. I was all about Sociology and Psychology.

9.    What one device can you not live without?

My iPad. It has my whole life in it (but I am a huge TV fan, too).

10.   If you were stranded on an island and could only have 3 things, what would you bring?

My family, sunscreen and margaritas!

Steiner’s Corner

1.    Favorite movie?

Ocean’s Eleven (both the new one and the old one).

2.    Favorite song?

Pharrell Williams’ “Happy”.

3.    Favorite cookie?

A new favorite – chocolate salty carmel bars from Beehive Bread Co. in Powell. They are out of this world!

4.    Favorite holiday?

Christmas. Everyone seems so happy and giving at that time of year.
