Borror Presents 10th Annual Short North Gala
Borror’s Short North Living Center is located right on High Street at the epicenter of the Short North, and we’re committed to supporting our artsy, diverse and vibrant neighborhood. One of our favorite ways to do so each year is through presenting the Short North Gala, an annual celebration of the community and spirit of the Short North Arts District.
This year’s 10th anniversary event is set for Sunday, April 17 at the Hilton Columbus Downtown, 401 N. High St. In honor of 10 years of the Gala, a collection of the best Short North chefs and confectioners will prepare 10 savory and 10 sweet dishes—and that’s alongside a three-course meal served by Gallerie Bar & Bistro!
Entertainment is a stage show featuring Jazz Arts Group and BalletMet, and the true spirit of the evening is exemplified in a ceremony honoring neighborhood leaders and partners.
For this year’s 10th anniversary the Gala will roll out a new award, District Legacy, honoring those who have made lasting contributions to the Short North Arts District through their life and service. The inaugural District Legacy honors go to Tom Thompson and Greg Carr. Thompson was founder and publisher emeritus of the Short North Gazette newspaper and other publications showcasing art, culture and community across Columbus; he passed away in December 2015. Carr was one of the earliest advocates for the revitalization of the Short North, and he’s well known as a founder of the Short North Tavern, the Short North Business Association, the Neighborhood Design Center and the inimitable Doo Dah Parade. Carr passed away in January 2016.
The Gala committee also honors Unsung Heroes, selected for the contributions they’ve made over the years to the artistry, diversity, community and spirit of the neighborhood. This year’s honorees are Charly Bauer of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams (who also has a hand in events like HighBall and leading the formation of the Short North Alliance), Lori Gum of Stonewall Columbus (she coordinates the annual Pride Festival, among many other roles), and Dave Weibel of Edward Jones (a consummate volunteer and advisor for small businesses along High Street).
Additionally being honored are Haiku Poetic Food & Art, chosen as this year’s Business Beacon honoree, and King Avenue United Methodist Church, chosen as this year’s Community Partner honoree.
New for the 2016 Short North Gala is a private VIP reception from 5 to 6 p.m. featuring an exclusive meet and greet with Short North foodies, charcuterie by Sang Lakhani of The Table, a how-to cocktail demonstration from Middle West Spirits’ Brady Konya, and a set from DJ Charles Erickson.
