Apartment living offers many benefits, including accessibility, maintenance, and amenities. One of those amenities when renting with BORROR is living with your furry friends. We know you love your pets, and we recognize that owning a pet and living in an apartment can be a challenge. By choosing the right breed, looking after your pet properly, and following a few tips, you can keep both your neighbors and your furry friend happy.
Choosing the Right Breed
Some dog breeds are better than others when it comes to apartment living. Low to medium energy dogs are often recommended to those living in apartments and cities. Lower energy breeds are generally less noisy and do not require as much exercise or long walks. These breeds include Pugs, French Bulldogs, Dachshunds, Boston Terriers, Bichon Frises, and Cocker Spaniels.
Looking After Your Pet
- Be respectful of your neighbors and common areas by always picking up after your pets, inside and outside. Always bring a bag with you while walking your pets. You will also want to clean out any litter boxes or cages on a regular basis.
- Use a leash for your pet, even if they don’t need it. As mentioned previously, not everybody loves your pet like you do, so it is important to maintain control of your pet. Since apartments can be busy places, leashes help keep neighbors and your pet safe.
- Keep your pet healthy. This may seem like a no brainer, but it is important to take your pet to the vet regularly and stay updated on vaccinations and shots. Additionally, prevent fleas by having your pet groomed.
Other Tips to Consider
- Use a collar and identification tag on your pet in the event you should lose them. This way, your neighbors will be able to return your pet to you.
- Create a routine so your pet knows when to expect food and potty breaks.
- Train your pet properly to help them understand the rules of both your apartment and the community. This will help set boundaries to make sure your pet is not a threat to neighbors.
At BORROR, we have a generous pet policy of two pets per apartment with a maximum weight of 80 lbs.
