Reach out and Read
We all remember our favorite stories from childhood, and some of us even cherish sharing those same stories with our children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews. Tales by C.S. Lewis, Dr. Suess, Shel Silverstein, and J.K. Rowling were the building blocks of our personalities, sparked our imaginations, and prepared us for success in school and beyond.
This fall, Borror is partnering with Nationwide Children’s Hospital and holding a book drive in support of their Reach Out and Read literacy program. ROR has had a positive impact on parents’ behaviors, beliefs, and attitudes toward reading aloud and has resulted in improved language scores of at-risk children who participate. ROR provides low-income children with a new book to take home at each of their regular check-ups from 6 months to age 5. Volunteers also read to patients in waiting areas, modeling effective storytime for parents. In 2014, Over 74,000 books were given away and 2,300 hours were volunteered at Nationwide Children’s Hospital primary care centers.
Emergency Department Clothing Needs
Borror is proud to call Columbus home and is excited about our urban expansion. With this growth comes the opportunity to become more involved downtown and in its surrounding communities.
Nationwide Children’s Hospital is the largest children’s hospital in the nation, serving patients from every state as well as over 50 different foreign countries. Each year, over 88,000 kids come through the Emergency Department. Often, kids do not have extra clothes to change into and have to spend their time in the hospital in a patient gown.
Nationwide Children’s Hospital is in great need for children’s clothing. As winter quickly approaches, the need for clothes for children discharged is increasing.
