2019 was another great year for Borror! We celebrated a year at our expanded headquarters in the Short North, opened a celebrated new development in Italian Village, and continued to lease our high-end apartments in Columbus’ most vibrant neighborhoods.
Borror President Lori Steiner shares her 2019 highlights.
1. The Beeker opens
The Beeker officially opened in May, offering 89 studio, one- and two-bedroom units and a three-bedroom penthouse in Italian Village. Residential units offer a stylish and modern urban living experience, with three-quarters of apartment units leased out. Also now open on the Beeker’s first floor is instant neighborhood hot spot Zaftig Brewing.
2. 303 and 985 are 100% leased
We’re excited to announce that our residential developments at The 303, located in Downtown Columbus’ vibrant RiverSouth district, and 985 High in the Short North are now completely leased.
3. The Castle Garage becomes a neighborhood landmark
This year we put The Castle garage on the map. Offering 210 spaces with 105 public spaces, the garage doubles as a drive-through for the flagship White Castle restaurant location. The entrance is on West 2nd Avenue, just west of High Street. The garage has exceeded our expectations and is serving the community well.
4. Xander gets a roof
A couple of notable Borror projects are under construction this year. We brought Xander on State, our first development in the rapidly evolving Discovery District in Downtown Columbus, out of the ground and under roof. The first units in this six-story, mixed-use development will be ready to occupy on May 1.
5. We dedicate an Adelphi Quarter building
And as we prepared to start digging at The Adelphi Quarter, our urban mixed-use development on East Long Street in the city’s near east side, we announced plans to name a building after Ann B. Walker. Walker, 96, is a longtime community leader and honoring her contributions to the neighborhood are part of our continued efforts to cement these new buildings into the fabric of the community.
6. We’ve got a new and improved pet policy
We improved our pet policies this year by removing all weight limitations and inviting pets into every home. We’ve long had pet-friendly rental policies, but as the pet population has increased in recent years we loosened weight restrictions, made every apartment pet-friendly and added more events for pets. Borror now offers a generous pet policy of up to two pets per apartment with no weight restrictions.
7. Our team volunteers time
And we recommitted to our company’s mission and core values. In 2019 Borror volunteers packed boxes and sorted food at Mid-Ohio Food Bank, and sent 50 volunteers man the beverage stations at the Nationwide Duck Race. We adopted a family this holiday season, providing Thanksgiving dinner and delivering Christmas cheer including presents for all five children and mom, and a new dining room table and chairs.
8. Our team serves the community
Borror team members remained committed to serving our community in 2019, serving on the Franklin County Poverty Mitigation Committee, the Short North Alliance, the Boundless Development Committee the ULI Mentorship Program and others.
9. Our team plays well together
Corporate culture remains strong, and our team had fun playing shuffleboard, socializing at tailgates, baseball games, hockey games, football games, fundraisers team lunches, happy hours, birthday celebrations, and so much more.
10. We hit one year in Short North
In 2019, we celebrated the completion of our first year working out of our new headquarters in the Short North, and agree that we all love it!
The Borror Team is looking forward to new projects and exciting challenges in the new decade, and, of course, lots and lots of fun!
