DICARLO’S PIZZA SIGNS LEASE AT THE BEEKER
Construction is underway for development at the corner of Fifth and Summit
Borror is excited to announce that DiCarlo’s Pizza has signed on as a retail tenant at The Beeker, a five-story multi-use building in the Short North with 89 boutique apartment units.
DiCarlo’s has a long history in the Ohio Valley, where their distinctive Steubenville-style pizza, with its crispy crust and a layer of provolone added after the pie comes out of the oven, is beloved.
The 400-square-foot DiCarlo’s location will be the second in the Columbus market. The first, in Hilliard, was originally opened in 2005 as a franchise location before the DiCarlo family took over operations in 2015. Marketing manager Anna DiCarlo, whose father and uncle founded DiCarlo’s in 1945, has been seeking the perfect location in the Columbus market for two years now.
“I’ve been intrigued by how Columbus just keeps exploding. Columbus is on the rise—it’s the place to be, to live, as well as to work,” DiCarlo says. “With this location, I found what I’ve been looking for, which is parking accessibility as well as great potential for foot traffic. Usually you don’t get both.”
DiCarlo’s son is working to refurbish an original DiCarlo’s Pizza sign from the 1940s to hang from the location at The Beeker. The Short North shop will be the chain’s first 100% organic store, using the exact same classic pizza recipe only with 100% organic ingredients. DiCarlo has sourced organic California tomatoes as well as olive oil, flour, aged provolone and peppers, and is working to find an organic pork pepperoni product similar to the Ezzo Sausage Company pepperoni they’ve used for decades.
The F.W. Beeker building is located at the southwest corner of East Fifth Avenue and Summit Street, being developed as a “gateway” to the Italian Village neighborhood. The building features two levels of parking, with a lower level reserved for residents and an upper level shared by residents and retail guests. Two additional commercial spaces along Fifth Avenue have not yet been filled.
