Borror Celebrates 10 Years in Business

Doug Borror and Lori Steiner first launched real estate company in July 2008

Borror celebrated its 10-year anniversary in July, marking an incredible success story of growth. In just a decade, the real estate company has grown from a team of two to a staff of over 100, and from a portfolio of 1,062 properties to over 15,000 rooftops in Central Ohio.

Borror now offers services in three divisions: development, commercial construction and property management, including apartment management, association management and senior living management.

In May, the company moved from its longtime offices in Dublin into a new, expanded corporate headquarters in the Offices at 985 High at The Castle building, in the Short North.

Borror CEO Doug Borror launched Borror in 2008 after leaving an illustrious, two-decade career with Dominion Homes, bringing his Dominion colleague Lori Steiner along as President and COO.

Initially, Borror oversaw management for three apartment communities: Karric Place, Springburne at Polaris, and Silvertree at Little Turtle.  Association management was added a year later, followed by development. Over the years, the company has dabbled in residential construction and custom home building, as well.

Borror shifted its primary focus to urban development in 2013, citing research that shows the most significant growth in the City’s population is expected to be in downtown Columbus between now and 2050. The Columbus 2050 study states that there are enough existing homes in the Central Ohio suburbs to house the suburban population 30 years from now.

“We have a vision for Columbus—constructing distinct new properties and renovating cherished buildings,” Doug Borror says.

Recognizing the lot’s potential, Borror purchased its first Short North property, a vacant building at 22 Prescott St., in 2013. The Prescott, an upscale multifamily residential building, was completed in January 2016. Borror now has five buildings open in Downtown Columbus and the Short North. The developments include residential concepts—303, 40 West, The Prescott, and The Jerome— as well as multi-use retail concepts at The Beeker (opening next spring) and The Castle, which opened this summer.

The Beeker, at the corner of Fifth and Summit in the Short North, is currently under construction, and a 220-unit development on State Street Downtown will break ground in September.
