The Impact of Photography on Real Estate

Photography has been around for a very long time – since 1839. Since that time, photography has come a long way. The digital age and digital photography capabilities have greatly impacted the real estate industry. Today, quality photography is a must have when it comes to successful real estate. According to a study done by Redfin, across all price tiers, homes with DSLR photography were more likely to sell within six months than homes with point-and-shoot photos.

The internet is the primary reason photography has become so important in real estate. According to a joint study conducted by The National Association of Realtors® and Google, 90% of home buyers searched online during their home buying process. Consumers are shopping for everything online, including homes. They want to see photos of the properties they are interested in and will decide what they like based on the available photos.

Photography has also influenced the real estate business when it comes to branding. The photos are not only representing individual homes, but also the realtor or real estate company itself. Low-quality photos are quickly equated to low-quality properties and thus, a low-quality brand. That is why it is so important to have quality and consistent photography.

So, while it may be cliche, it is true; a picture is worth a thousand words. You can spend hours typing the most sophisticated property description but one photograph may say it better.
